Port Wemyss Times
2nd May
Port Wemyss, (and Portnahaven) Isle of Islay
2026
Islay's first wild sauna
Nestled within the shed at Burnside
Lodge (recently replaced due to
Storm Eowyn) you will be able to warm and cool with views of Orsay Lighthouse. The health benefits of sauna use are rarely out of the news at the moment and we are very proud to be part of the upsurgence.
And also very grateful for the help and support from so many of the community! Opening is just a few weeks away, see islaysauna.co.uk or @IslaySauna for details.

An Tigh Seinnse
Meghan at our local pub is back to summer opening, 7 days a week, check for kitchen opening times if you want to eat, and book a table! It’s tiny but lovely (demonstrated by the number of locals you will find in there!)

Opened the season at the Rhinns
Playing Field at the edge of the villages
this year next to the new Pump Track –
the first in Argyll. Anna (& Ruby) will be found around the villages throughout the season, serving amazing locally caught fish, seasoned with Orsay Seasalt. If they are not on
their usual pitch at Portnahaven Boatyard check @OrsaySeafood for details, and arrive early, there’s always
a queue – mostly locals, an indication of just how good the food is!
Going fishing?
For all your fishing needs: rod’s, reels, crabbing lines contact Neil on 07900 835526. Occasionally you may find him
at An Tigh Seinnse if you want to chat about what’s available. Or catch Kate at Burnside Lodge to see what’s in the shed!
Burnside Lodge Cake Cupboard
…. is closed this year (sorry!) but Kate will be open as an occasional café throughout the season. Takeaways available but also inside seating with a view of the lighthouse for days when the weather is not so kind. Next open on Sunday 10th May, Follow @IslayBaker on Instagram for future dates and opening times.
Creagan Mhor Cakes & Eggs
Eilidh’s cake box opened for the
season at Easter so there is no
shortage of delicious cake! Open
most weekends find her on Facebook to check what’s baking.

Heading out west
Heading out of the villages on the beautiful westerly coastal road, don’t forget to drop in on Mairi and Gordon at Islay Celtic Crafts and then Jessie at Windswept Farm Shop. See their Facebook pages for opening times (usually most of the time!) and pick up some truly ‘Islay’ souvenirs and food.
